A 14-year-old girl presented with a firm, subcutaneous mass, approximately 4mm in diameter, anterior to the lobule and inferior to the intertragal incisura of the left ear. The lump was fixed and mildly tender to palpation.
On history-taking, it was revealed she had been struck on the right side of her face by a sibling seven years ago, resulting in gross swelling and pain. At the time, her mother found the rear clasp of an earring she had been wearing at the time, but never found the pin. The swelling and pain subsided over a few weeks, with a small scar forming at the site of the piercing.
The girl's mother strongly suspected the pin was responsible for the lump.
