THE evidence supporting the beneficial effects of regular exercise on physical and mental health continues to accumulate. It is now clear that being physically active is one of the major behaviours for preventing chronic disease. However, while general guidelines for exercise prescription have been established, exercise programs need to be personalised to ensure patient participation and realistic goal-setting.
