The exceptional design and content of Australian Doctor’s lifestyle magazine Focus have been recognised at Australia’s major business publishing awards.
Our monthly magazine was judged at the annual Australian Business and Specialist Publisher awards to have published the best single article in the last year: Jack Marx’s extraordinary article about the pioneering experimental surgery of Australia’s own “monkey doctor”, Dr Henry Leighton Jones (September edition).
Focus was also awarded best graphic design — congratulations go to art director Julie Coughlan and editor Graem Sims.
The wide-ranging skills of the Australian Doctor team were also recognised, with highly commended awards for magazine of the year (print run >15,000); best newcomer to journalism, political writer Claire Sweeney; best opinion series, medical editor Dr Kerri Parnell; and best rewrite of an article, features editor Heather Wiseman.
Our web site (australiandoctor.com.au) was highly commended for best internet site and Australian Rural Doctor was highly commended for best magazine launch.
Australian Doctor’seditorial expertise was also recognised recently at the 2004 National Press Club Excellence in Health Journalism awards, with freelance writer Deb Richards winning best news/feature article for the news review feature ‘Bali one year on’ (10 October 2003).
