Botulinum toxin is an effective treatment for pain associated with tennis elbow, researchers find.Using a new method to pin-point the best injection site, researchers found patients who received botulinum toxin experienced significant reductions in pain at 4, 8 and 16 weeks compared with controls.The botulinum toxin paralysed the extensor muscles of the wrist, releasing tension on the common extensor tendon and allowing gradual healing of the epicondylitis, the researchers wrote in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (online).The trial of 48 patients showed the toxin had greater efficacy than demonstrated in previous studies, the researchers said, due to the anatomical measurements used to guide the injections.“A distance of one-third the length of the forearm from the tip of the lateral epicondyle...
