The former boss of Medicare’s top watchdog says the AMA will end up as “irrelevant ratbags” if it fails to condemn the systemic rorting of Medicare by doctors.
Dr Tony Webber, who stood down as director of the Professional Services Review last year, caused a storm last month when he called for an end to the cash “bonanza” generated by GPs and practices misusing care plans and team care arrangements.
AMA president Dr Steve Hambleton described Dr Webber’s views as jaundiced, a perspective distorted by only dealing with those at the “extreme end” of the profession.
